Dev SWCI 401,101

Description

DEV SWCI 401 is a multi-functional hydrotest product with a successful global application track record of more than 20 years. DEV SWCI 401 provides effective and fast-acting protection against corrosion. The formulation is a blend of oxygen scavenger and corrosion inhibitor specifically designed as a preservative for a number of applications.

  • Hydrotesting
  • Mothballing
  • Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF)

DEV SWCI 401 delivers outstanding performance to mitigate corrosion mechanisms in an aqueous environment. It rapidly scavenges dissolved oxygen to minimize corrosion and, reduces the risk of microbiologically-influenced corrosion (MIC).

Performance

DEV SWCI 401 rapidly reduces the dissolved oxygen concentration in seawater to below 50 ppb within 8 minutes at both 4°C and 25°C. For freshwater applications at 25°C, the reaction rate is somewhat slower resulting in 98 minutes.

Using the LPR corrosion monitoring technique, DEV SWCI 401 quickly decreases the corrosion rate in the first hour to 0.01 mm/year and stabilises at 0.0015 mm/year, representing 99.9% inhibition.

In accordance with the latest NACE Standard TMO 212-2012, molecular method qPCR is used to study 'bacteria kill performance'.

The traditional method of enumeration using MPN only captures 10% of culture-able bacteria; however, qPCR provides qualitative, highly-specific and accurate enumeration of active, inactive and dead bacteria.

The evaluation includes the five key bacteria species responsible for MIC:

  • Desulfovibrio desvlfricans (SRB)
  • Shewanella putrefaciens (IRB)
  • Thiobacillus thioparus (SOB)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa (biofilm)
  • Methanolibacter arachidis (methanogens)

Handling

1. As a concentrate/Neat Oil DEV SWCI 401 is a corrosive liquid that can cause burns. DEV SWCI 401 is harmful by inhalation, by contact with skin and if swallowed. It is also irritating to the eyes, respiratory system and skin; therefore, this product should be handled with care.

2. As diluted at 500 ppm After 96 hours, treated system water with 500ppm can be safely discharged into the sea. It is highly biodegradable and non-toxic.

Based on the results of physical-chemical analysis and acute toxicity level (LC50 - 96 hours), biodegradability and Kow Test (Octanol-Water Partition Coefficient) on the Dev SWCI401 brand hydrostatic chemicals carried out, we here with submit that these chemicals meet the test standards as specified below, so that they can be approved for use in a hydrostatic test at sea.

At solution in sea water at 500 PPM tested at room temperature toxicity test meets the standard LC50 96 hours with 12,097.72 ppm, ie practically non-toxic. Biodegradability test meets the standard 68.33%/60%, (Well biodegradable) and per Kow Test meets the standard with Log Kow = 1,026 (<3).

Description

DEV SEAWATER ADDITIVE SWCI-101 is a corrosion inhibitor containing a proprietary formulation of inorganic compounds and film forming chemicals. It provides good protection to mild steel in presence of seawater at ambient temperature.

Seawater additive SWCI-101 also contains additives which can act as oxygen scavenger as well as proprietary biocides which take care of bacteria and algae.

Corrosion Inhibitor for Sea Water

Applications

  • Seawater additive SWCI -101 may be added to the storage tank containing sea water at the dosage of 5%. The product is soluble in sea water. The sea water after addition of seawater additive SWCI -101 can be circulated through the system.
  • Works only with bare metal in contact with sea water. This includes the paint peeked off, cracks in the surface coated zones, etc.
  • Operate the system and circulate the liquid for the pipes.
  • Corrosion inhibition efficiency of 92% is measured at standard lab conditions at ambient temperature, the rate is around 0.023mm per year.
  • When the solution touches the walls of the metal surface it starts forming a film and prevent corrosion by inhibition, so circulation or first 100% wetting of all surfaces is needed.
  • In case of big tanks, it works wherever water solution is filled and is in contact with bare metal. It stops corrosion of the bare metal and paint damage surfaces due to sea water actions.
  • For long term protection, add periodic doses every six months.
  • No air tight closure of the opening of the tank top and sealing is needed for preservation purpose.

Properties

The additives used in seawater additive SWCI - 101 are eco-friendly and do not pose any harm to the user.

It is water soluble and non-hazardous.

Directions for use

Seawater additive SWCI -101 should be added at max of 5% and shall be circulated in case of piping system involved. In case of short retention (a week) the dosage can be reduced to 0.1%.

While discharging, care can be taken to add defoamer to avoid frothing.

Also we recommend to dilution of preserved caraway mixed sea water with additional multiples of sea water to avoid foam formation.

Handling, Storage & Packaging

Available in 50L carboys or 200L barrel.

Acute Toxicity

Acute oral toxicity data in albino rats by the oral route: GHS category 5, >2000 – 5000 mg/kg body weight, with LD50 cut off at 5000 mg/kg body weight. Thus the product, seawater additive SWCI -101 is non-toxic and safe for use. Anaerobic bacteria biocide such as sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB).
